Gecko Recycle Scheme for hard to recycle items is coming to fruition. These items are Household Batteries, CDs & DVDs, Printer Cartridges, and Mobile Phones, which currently end up in the council tip. This program is designed to place a Hard to Recycle container in every shopping centre so such items can be safely disposed of and a volunteer will empty the container on a regular basis.
Currumbin Special School teacher, Toby Osborne, has started an inspiring programme which provides learning
opportunities to hone the employment skills and social skills development for the students. The programme
commenced in June 2018 after some months of setup and has met with resounding success with the students.
2018 will be an exciting year for the war in waste! July 1 a container deposit scheme will be launched as well as a ban on single use plastic bags.
This temporary installation in Winders park next to Gecko House was an artistic expression of sea level rise and how our grandchildren will experience rising tides by the end of this century.
