Gecko Talks 22nd September - Damsel & Dragon Flies

Take a step towards learning about the other 95% of organisms that inhabit our planet – the invertebrates – and join us for this month’s Gecko Talk on Dragonflies and Damselflies.

The guest speakers Narelle Power and Damian White, entomologist and co-authors of the recent publication, ‘Dragonflies and Damselflies of the Gold Coast’.

Narelle and Damian have been observing Dragonflies and Damselflies around the coast for well over 30 years, and will be sharing with us their wealth of knowledge on these species’ life history, habitats, diversity and the ticks behind telling them apart.

The co-authors will also be addressing both the positive and negative impacts climate change has had on both the diversity of Dragonfly and Damselfly species found along the coast, as well as the impacts these changes have had their population sizes.

Their recent publication explores and captures the 85 species of Dragonflies and Damselflies that call the Gold Coast home, as well as the 23 additional species that have been recorded in nearby localities.

This month’s Gecko Talk is on September 22nd, from 6:45pm at Currumbin RSL.
