Join Respect Springbrook Mountain, a coalition of community and conservation groups opposing the cableway. Individuals and groups are welcome. Together, we call on all levels of Government to respect World Heritage-listed Springbrook National Park and stop pursuing this destructive and risky infrastructure.
Our concerns are supported by evidence that paints a clear picture: a cableway development to Springbrook is neither sustainable, nature-based, nor eco-tourism-friendly.
It has been 25 years since the first proposal for a cableway was rejected for reasons that are even greater today!

- Launched the Respect Springbrook Mountain coalition.

- Held a vigil of the coalition outside a COGC Council meeting.
- Continually engaged with media.
- Coordinated meetings between key stakeholders, representatives, and council officers to discuss issues with a proposed cableway.
- Met with QLD Environment Minister Powell.
- Public information about the proposed cableway and our concerns, including hosting a Gecko Talk.
- Liaised with members of the Springbrook community to understand concerns and help share their stories.
- A comprehensive briefing for Federal Environment Minister Watt.
- Started a growing coalition and developed a strategy together.
- Launched a petition to Premier Crisafulli.
- Liaised with key industry stakeholders to understand their views and concerns.
- Researched with scientists, academics, and advisors.
- Ongoing engagement with First Nations groups and representatives.
- Engaged widely with the community on the cableway proposal.
The Respect Springbrook Mountain coalition is led by Gecko Environment Council with the support and membership of local and state conservation and community groups.
