A Magical Look at Our Reefs – See what Lies Beneath the Gold Coast’s Ocean
Gecko Talks – Wednesday 26th June at Currumbin RSL
Few people know the outstanding marine world of the Gold Coast’s near-reefs as well as acclaimed underwater photographer, Ian Banks. Now you can see some of his stunning photos—and learn more about our fascinating marine life—in an upcoming free presentation.
More than 460 fish species have been recorded in the Gold Coast Seaway, largely as a result of Ian’s work.
Come along to Gecko Talks on Wednesday, June 26 and get a glimpse of what you’ll find at our near-shore reefs—and why the marine life varies at the different locations.
His knowledge and photography led to his appointment as Honorary Consultant to Queensland Museum’s Ichthyology Section. Ian has collaborated with Queensland Museum in research projects and many of his high-quality images feature in the Museum’s publications.
Ian’s deep knowledge was built during more than 40 years of diving. These days, as well as being a commercial diver, he offers specialised dive training and guide services.
‘There is enormous value in the Gold Coast Seaway as a premier land-based dive location and haven for marine life,’ he said. ‘Unfortunately, outside the Seaway we do not have the near-reef structures to support an abundance of marine life which is why over the past 10 years I have been involved with the process of obtaining an offshore dive attraction.’
