Speaker: Neil MacLeod
Delightful pictures of our local wildlife are always a winner and this month’s Guest Speaker is no exception at Gecko- Gold Coast and Hinterland’s (Gecko) next Guest Speaker Night at 6.30pm on Wednesday 27th November.
Neil MacLeod, has had varied life experiences and his naturalist father gave him his love for wildlife in the Lake District and Scotland of the United Kingdom. From his early 20’s he explored Africa, Central America and the Himalayas before arriving on the Gold Coast. He found there was no book on local wildlife so decided to create one himself. This photography book is called “The Real Paradise, flora and fauna of the Gold Coast and Hinterland” and was a great favourite of the children in Gold Coast schools. The book demonstrates his keen observation of the full spectrum of nature over his life time and it is some of these experiences that Neil will share with the audience at Gecko.
Recently he just returned from a photography expedition to Cambodia capturing the mysteries of ancient temples and the strangler figs in the jungle that is always threatening to engulf the temples of Ta Prohm.
Neil spends much of his time these days in playing woodwind in Mother Nature’s Orchestra and has written a no coal seam gas song. He is a musical advocate against coal seam gas mining because of its impact on the natural environment and local communities. Mother Nature’s Orchestra is a musical collective that draws on the sounds of Mother Nature herself for sonic inspiration. Starting out as nothing more than friends getting together to make music on the weekend, Mother Nature’s Orchestra has grown into a 6 piece orchestra that plays at Gold Coast gigs.
Neil and the Orchestra supported Gecko’s Rock the Gate concert in May this year and he has a commitment to protecting our natural environment from the threats of coal seam gas mining.
Neil promises to be a fascinating presenter with diverse interests to share with us all.
