SUMMARY:Gecko Talk – Birds, Roads and Better Planning: Why Transport Ecology Matters
DESCRIPTION:Roads shape the landscapes we live in, but their effects on wildlife are often far more complex than they first appear. Birds, in particular, are often assumed to be less affected by roads because they can fly – yet research shows roads can influence movement, habitat use, noise exposure, mortality risk, and the kinds of bird communities that persist in an area.\nIn this talk, ecologist Chris will explore what road ecology tells us about birds and transport infrastructure, drawing on research, field experience, and practical examples from Australia. The presentation will look at why these issues matter, where current planning often falls short, and what more fauna-sensitive approaches can do to improve outcomes for biodiversity.\nOur Gecko Talks series is kindly supported by Currumbin RSL. Come early, enjoy dinner and a drink before this months talk!\n
