These species once common along the coastal fringe are now restricted to small populations along the coast. Propagated plants when ready will be planted back onto The Spit as part of the ongoing restoration of Federation Walk Coastal Reserve helping to retain some of the local Gold Coast genetics.\nNAMU planted 3300 plants in April taking advantage of the wet weather. The planting included many Littoral Rainforest plants propagated from the original Surfers Rainforest.\nThis planting filled up a gap in the forest created by repeated arson fires. This area was becoming more fire prone each time due to the promotion of more flammable fire loving species and the death of many of the trees. Ongoing vegetation management such as control of weeds and native blady grass will give the rainforest time to develop, once established this site will be less likely to be impacted by arson in the future.\nAssisted regeneration, namely weed control activities have continued along the length of Federation Walk Coastal Reserve. The recent La Nino year has provided a good opportunity for everything to grow, especially the weeds keeping our restoration contractors particularly busy. Assisted regeneration will complement all the historical and future restoration of Federation Walk Coastal Reserve allowing this coastal reserve to continue to improve into the future.\n<https://mcusercontent.com/adee7958cba85f422fe5b1218/images/5ef28193-1a98-dff6-c9b9-5b4bfa146243.png ( https://mcusercontent.com/adee7958cba85f422fe5b1218/images/5ef28193-1a98-dff6-c9b9-5b4bfa146243.png )>\n……..and another of our favorite residents, Superb Fairy wren chicks.\n \nContact:\nLyn Wright: M:0400 740 972 <tel:0400 740 972 ( tel:0400%20740%20972 )> President Friends of Federation Walk Inc.\n\n
