SUMMARY:Gecko Talks-The Cane Toad Challenge-27 June
DESCRIPTION:Gecko Talks – The Cane Toad Challenge – 7pm 27th June\nThis is a Community Engagement and Citizen Science Initiative\nSpeaker:  Professor Rob Capon, University of Queensland, Institute for Molecular Bioscience\nThe Cane Toad Challenge is based on a clever new way to turn the creatures’ own toxins against them.   It is a way all of us can help eradicate this fast-breeding pest.\nProfessor rob Capon and his team have developed an innovative cane toad tadpole trapping technology that uses a nature road pheromone to lure toad tadpoles into a trap.\nBetter still, he’s coming to the Gold Coast to tell us about it.\nThe team created the Cane Toad Challenge, a community engagement and citizen science initiative dedicated to making this technology freely available to the public.\nThere are now believed to be more than 1.5 billion cane toads rapidly spreading throughout Australia after being introduced to help wipe out cane beetles more than 80 years ago.\nEradication to date has been labour intensive and largely ineffective.\nThe Challenge Team is seeking help from individuals, volunteer and community groups, businesses and local, state and federal government agencies to help eradicate this pest from Australia.\nCan you help?\nWhen:   Wednesday 27th June 2018 6.45pm for 7pm start\nWhere:  ‘The Cove Room’,Currumbin RSL\nCost:       FREE\n\n Come early and get your evening meal at the RSL\n\n\n
