SUMMARY:25th May 2016 – Artificial Tree Hollows for Wildlife
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Tree Holllows\nSpeakers: Steve Collum and Ash Sandercombe\nOrganisation: Habi-Tec Habitat Innovations ( https://habi-tec.com/about/ )\nGecko is proud to introduce Steve Collum and Ash Sandercombe from Habi-Tec as speakers for the May Guest Speaker Night. Gecko extends an invitation to the community to come and learn about how to create lost habitat for our wildlife.\nSteve Collum and his skilled team of arborists embrace a holistic approach to tree management, employing techniques that help reintroduce biodiversity to trees and their surrounding areas. Their goal is to highlight the importance of habitat recreation to the public, developers and industries related to arboriculture and horticulture. Habi-Tec is currently working with the City of Gold Coast to promote, manage and create wildlife habitats within the city’s mature tree population, so far with great success.\nLand clearing, development projects and current tree management standards lead to the removal of dead trees and prevent them from developing hollows, which under natural circumstances could take up to 300 years to become suitable for wildlife. Habi-Tec provides innovative habitat solutions by replicating natural tree hollows and adding simple man-made components such as nest boxes to encourage active use by wildlife.\nWho: Steve Collum and Ash SandercombeWhen: 25th May, 6:30 for 7.00pm.Where: The Cove Currumbin RSL, 165 Duringan St, Currumbin QLD 4223\n
