To canvas appropriate businesses and organisations to buy advertising space in our monthly newsletter, Leaftales. Only a few hours are required each week and it would suit someone with some advertising or marketing training / experience. - Librarian
To maintain the library borrowing system, database and cataloging, an experienced and organised person is required to take over the role of Librarian. Only one to two days per week are required and someone with librarian training or experience is preferred. - Campaigns Coordinator

The Portfolio
The Human Resources team consisting of Anna Bridle (Board Member) and Dee Sier (Volunteer Coordinator) recognise the fundamental importance of volunteers in continuing and expanding Gecko’s important work. In conjunction with the Gecko Board the team undertakes to provide a safe and pleasant work environment for members and volunteers and to ensure that relevant legislation is adhered to.
Vision
The vision of the Human Resources team is to be successful at ensuring Gecko has happy volunteers that are satisfied in their work and who work as a team supporting one another.
Goals for 2012
- To fill all priority volunteer positions and have job descriptions for each position
- To have a happy and well functioning team.
- To host informal volunteer social drop-in and get-togethers every 3 months, with board members attending, in the office or outside by the mural to connect with each other and the House.
- To host members and volunteers get-togethers, social nights and excursions to connect and discuss activities at Gecko and recruit more volunteers.
Resources and methods
- The team will meet monthly to determine strategies and their effectiveness for ensuring enough volunteers to fill all areas at Gecko currently outlined in the 2010 form of Gecko’s structure.
- The team will develop a new format volunteers list which will be categorised into the different portfolios with contact details. Gecko’s volunteer email list will then be updated.
- The team will develop a comprehensive – A volunteer introductory package which would include a calendar will be supplied with the meeting times for each portfolio to every new volunteer.
- The team will match volunteers to those areas that suit their individual strengths
- The team will ascertain how best to provide support to ensure they are happy in their roles at Gecko.
- The team will provide an environment that will ensure each volunteer is welcomed and thanked for their efforts on an ongoing basis and that they feel part of the larger family that is Gecko. This will be achieved by three social gatherings per year.
- The HR team will provide volunteers with correct training and orientation.
- Recruit the following volunteers:
- a Membership Coordinator
- a Fundraising and Donations Coordinator to source funding and organise activities
- a Social Coordinator to promote events within Gecko
