Green Book Club
So, Life’s perfect? Can’t think of any changes to be made? Clearly, reading and talking about how to improve ourselves and the planet is unnecessary. However, if you’re one of the deeply flawed souls amongst us, here’s a chance to make the changes necessary to join the golden elite. The Green Book Club, a Gecko initiative to support Transition Town Southern Beaches, focuses on readings across a range of areas that touch on quality of life issues. There will be environmental issues, peace, sense of place, attachment, belonging, and any others we can think of.
The Green Book Club meets one evening per month for two hours to discuss a book – fiction or non-fiction – that focuses on the above. The meeting will take place at the home of one of the club members and participants are encouraged to bring a plate of food and drinks (making life much easier for the host!). The evening will be introduced by a club member and then opened up for general discussion on the themes from the book. The GBC aims to bring people with shared interests together and to increase our understanding of our world and how that world might be made better.
The next meeting, focuses on Tim Flannery’s book, Here on earth, an argument for hope. It takes place Sunday 20 November from 4pm at the home of Rod and Lois Weir, 2/25 First Avenue, Palm Beach. To RSVP or for more information about the book club, contact josephgora@hotmail.com. Book reading suggestions are welcome.
