‘350’ Gold Coast Climate Action Day

Saturday 24th October, 11am – 1pm at Currumbin Alley Beach

Be there and join the first Gold Coast global action event on climate change.

Be part of a world-wide series of over 1700 events across more than 140 countries to raise awareness of the need to reduce CO2 emissions from the current 385 parts per million (ppm) to below 350ppm for a liveable planet.

As part of our 20th anniversary, Gecko invites all members of the community to participate in activities including a photographed ‘people formation’ of the number ‘350’ on Currumbin beach, and a ‘surfer formation’ of ‘350’ in the water.

The October 24 event will kick off at 11am with live music, followed by:

  • a giveaway of 350 free plants in return for 350 suggestions for reducing CO2 emissions
  • some environmental beach games
  • some very short speeches
  • opportunities to sign letters to the Prime Minister, and…
  • the massive ‘350’ photos!

The ‘350’ photos will be uploaded on both the Gecko.org.au and 350.org websites for all to see that we are serious about action for the planet.

This Climate Action Day is for everyone – an easy and fun way to get the message to our leaders and it will only take an hour and a bit of your time on one of the beautiful beaches we want to save.

Wear something blue if you can, and come by bus, walk, cycle, surf, swim, kayak or car pool to reduce your CO2 emissions. Don’t forget a hat and sunscreen.

Join with people across the planet to call for an effective response and serious action to climate change by national leaders at the Copenhagen Conference in December 2009.
